Exim Bank Tanzania has honored five Police Officers from three regions that include Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Tanga for their tremendous spirit of serving the nation. The bank that celebrated its 15th Anniversary yesterday awarded the Police Officers who were shortlisted by the Police Force with a brand new motorcycle each, a certificate of recognition and a medal.

The awarded include Insp. Abel.B.Swai, Sgt Vicent.C.Chikupe, A/Insp Dorina.K.Poyo , D/C Banda.M. Mtani and PC Mathias R. Mang’ombe Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the Exim Bank Head Officer that was graced by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Said Mwema, the Exim Bank Board Managing Director Anthony Grant said there is need for the police force to have great partnership with banks and financial institutions as the nature of crime in the financial world is becoming more challenging especially with areas such as money laundering and financing of terrorism.

“The alertness of the Tanzanian police force in detection of crime has not only discouraged most people from breaking the law but also compelled them to exercise self-discipline making Tanzania to be more peaceful than other countries within the region.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Said Mwema who officiated as Chief Guest at the event called upon the public to render support to the Police Force in fighting crime across the country urging that insecurity poses a threat to the country’s economic and social development. Mwema made the call yesterday during an event organized by Exim Bank to award five police officers who have excelled in serving the police force in various aspects.

According to Mwema, the participation of the public in policing activities is still low with statistics indicating the rate of public participation currently stands at 11 percent while 89 percent of the public still believe that the role of keeping law and order is a sole responsibility of the Government and the police force.

“Keeping law and order should be every body’s responsibility if the country is to register success in both social and economic development. “We should not tolerate circumstances disturbing peace since such things undermine the country’s development,” he said.

Mwema said the Police Force will continue rendering support to various financial institutions operating in the country in a bid to create a conducive environment for them to do business.
