GLOBAL restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) opens its 5th restaurant in Tanzania, in the heart of Dar es Salaam’s bustling market center Kariakoo. The global fast food chain celebrated the day with children from the deaf and blind unit of Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School from Kariakoo by donating TZS 1M to further the work of the school.

KFC is one of the world’s largest fast food chain known most for its crispy fried chicken. The franchise opened in Tanzania in 2013 and has quickly become Dar es Salaam’s friendly, affordable, quality fast food restaurant. Since its commencement 3 years ago, KFC has opened a branch in town centre, Mlimani City, Masaki and Mikocheni, creating employment for over 100 employees and suppliers.

“It has been quite a journey for us as KFC in Tanzania, we have spent the past few years learning from and listening to our customers. Our prices have become more and more affordable and we believe that opening a restaurant in Kariakoo will make our services more accessible to everyone”, said KFC General Manager, Mr. Louis Venter.

Mr. Venter expressed his excitement in the continued growth of the Tanzanian economy and assured KFC’s continued investing in the country through employment, quality service, good food and community engagement.

“There is so much more to KFC than good food. As a global brand we are involved in numerous community outreach programs especially in education. By sharing a meal and supporting the deaf and blind children from the Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School, we want to communicate that we are committed to growing with and investing in this country”, highlighted Mr. Venter.

Speaking on behalf of the Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School, a special education teacher accompanying the children expressed their gratitude towards KFC and urged other businesses to follow suite. The school, located in the busy Uhuru road of Kariakoo, is the oldest primary school of its nature in Dar es Salaam and has four special units for able, blind, deaf and mentally disabled children.

The successful opening of the KFC Kariakoo branch cumulated with a shared KFC meal with the children from Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School, KFC staff and media representatives. Doors to the fifth KFC restaurant in Tanzania are now officially open to the public.
