The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Bernard Kamilius Membe today called for the resumption of Air India flights to Tanzania to further strengthen relations between Dar es Salaam and New Delhi.

Speaking after receiving copies of his credentials, Hon. Membe told the new Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, H.E. Sandeep Arya, that revival of the historical communication link would stimulate trade between the two countries and facilitate easy movement of people.

It would also make it easier for people seeking medical attention in the Asian country. "India absorbs most of Tanzanians referred for treatment abroad and resumption of Air India flights will greatly ease their transition," he explained.

The Minister also urged the new envoy to support ongoing efforts to have India's Apolo chain of hospitals establish a center in Tanzania. He said apart from helping Tanzanians, the center could also carter for Tanzania's neighbors.

Hon. Membe said apart from health, Tanzania and India enjoyed robust cooperation in education and security sectors. Tanzania was also host to a sizable Indian community, which was law-abiding, he said.

Ambassador Arya undertook to push for resumption of Air India flights and expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
