ZG FILM "LOVERS ISLAND" SCOOPS THREE AWARDS AT ZIFF (ZANZIBAR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL).

Fashion week Zanzibar Founders Film Lovers Island scoops three awards at Zanzibar International Film Festival for Best ZUKU Swahili film, The awards were awarded for Best Acting in Swahili Film, Best Director in Swahili Film and Best Swahili Feature film. Thats the great achievement and congrats to Javed Jafferji for raising the standards of films in Tanzania.

ZG Films , led by renowned photographer and filmmaker Javed Jafferji, aims to not only meet and surpass the current standard of filmmaking in Tanzania, but to raise the bar to such an extent that it re-invents the Tanzanian movie scene and ushers in a new era of worldclass film production in the country. As evidence of achieving this goal, ZG Films presented a rare double billing at this year’s Zanzibar International Film Festival. With Journey to the State House: The Life of Seif Shariff Hamad and Glamour: The Reality Behind Dreams, ZG Films is presenting itself as the leader in Tanzanian film production. Now ZG Films is preparing to release it’s second feature film of 2011:

Lovers’ Island tells the story of a couple who have lost the spark in their marriage. In an effort to get it back and save their marriage they decide to find a tropical island, a island perfect for lovers in their position, where they can rekindle their love in seclusion. The perfect island is provided to them by a stranger who takes them to what looks like the place they have always dreamed of. They forgot the words of advice given to them years before: “Don’t trust strangers.” The perfect romantic getaway becomes a terrifying misadventure that would change their lives forever.

Bin Bond Sulieman, star of Glamour, makes his directing debut in Lovers’ Island. This up and coming star of Tanzanian film described making the film as an “incredible experience.” He said: “it is a dream come true to write and direct my own film… I thought it was amazing when I had the opportunity to star in movies, but this even topped that!” ZG Films prides itself on bringing some of the biggest and up-and-coming names in the industry together for their films, and Lovers’ Island is no exception, with Big Brother Africa 2 winner, Richard Bezuidenhout, taking the lead role with as Peter. Peter’s husband, Sarah, is played by model and actress Zamzam, completing the team of rising stars gathered by Producer Javed Jafferji for the film. “For this film I wanted to encourage those who I feel can change the industry,” Jafferji said, “that is my dream, to change the Tanzanian film industry and to build the industry in Zanzibar. So I got the people I think will be Tanzania’s best and put them together to see what they can do.” Asked if he was pleased with the result, Jafferji replied “definitely! I don’t regret my choice for a second.”

As a true product of the next generation of Tanzanian Lovers’ Island bodes well for the future of the industry, with ZG Films providing much needed experience to the most talented up-and-comers, the next generation, of Tanzanian film. Most importantly, however, Tanzania has another excellent film ready to entertain the masses
