INTERNATIONAL YOUNG FASHION DESIGNERS SHOWCASE TOUR IN TANZANIA

*Talented Young Fashion Designers Gathered in Enchanting Africa

After the shows in Iceland and Panama, “International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour” set off her journey to Dar es Salaam as its third stop. A gala fashion show held at Hyatt Regency of Dar es Salaam on Sept 28 featuring the collections of the participating international young fashion designers.

To support the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) launched by the Chinese Government to promote trade, infrastructure and networking strategy among countries, the “International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour” is organized aims to provide a platform for the young fashion designers to showcase their works globally.

This project is initiated by Dr. Annie Wu, SBS, JP, initiator of the showcase tour and the Honorary Consul of the United Republic of Tanzania to Hong Kong and Macau, to boost her relationship between China and Africa.

It is honored that Hon. Mizengo Peter Pinda, Former Prime Minister of Tanzania was present as the Guest of Honour. He officiated the catwalk show together with Dr Annie Wu and Ms Devotha Mdachi, Managing Director of Tanzania Tourist Board. They were joined by Mrs Pinda, Hon Angela Kairuki, Minister of Minerals, United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Ramadhani Mwinyi, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Joseph Kahama, Secretary General of Tanzania China Friendship Promotion Association, Ms Angel Hon, Curator of “Belt and Road International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour”, Mr Xu Chen, Minister Councellor of the Embassy of China in Tanzania and Mr Matindi, CEO of Air Tanzania.

“Dar es Salaam is an amazing and vibrant city filled with exotic and vivacious fashion, and I am incredibly thrilled to see the young fashion designers to be present here with positive energy and attitude, sharing their lively collections with the public. Getting inspired by this resourceful and ample city, the designers continue to express their enthusiasm of fashion with designers from various countries,” Dr. Annie Wu said.

The catwalk show presented the work of 11 designers from various countries including Tony Vergara and Veronica Angel from Panama, Hildur Yeoman from Iceland, Kemi Kalikawe from Tanzania, Junne Liu, Jarel Zhang from China, including the Trio-designer team, Lina, Yingzi, and Yuzhu from Kanoe, and Mary Yu, Kenny Li, Singchin Lo and Mountain Yam from Hong Kong.

Apart from their own outfits, the specially produced "Belt & Road" collection will be featured by selected African and Asian models.To enhance the blending of African and Chinese culture, special performances were arranged. The fashion show was opened by a local DJ and an African drummer, mixing African drums with the modern electro-acoustic. In addition, Anna Chau, the first female face-changing master from Hong Kong, gave a special Face Changing performance, blending the unique elements from the Chinese and African cultures and accompanied by brand new music arrangement and choreography. Prior to the show, Lee Wai Woo, a calligrapher from Hong Kong, offered the guests a fan with Chinese calligraphy, aiming to promote Chinese culture to the world.

“International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour” is initiated by Dr. Annie Wu, organized by “Belt and Road International Young Artist Development Centre”, curated by Ms. Angel Hon and coordinated by PR Network. After the inaugural show in Reykjavik in Iceland and second is Panama City, then Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and finally .


The event in Tanzania is co-sponsored by the Tanzania Tourist Board and Tanzania China Friendship Promotion Association.
