2013 Young Achievers Awards Nomination Open!


The Young Achievers Awards is an annual event where Young successful Ugandans are recognized and awarded for their excellence and initiative in the areas of business, science and technology, agriculture and outstanding talent and leadership among other sectors.  We’ve just extended the application deadline until 30th October , 2013 @ 8:00pm East Africa Time to allow more time for interested candidates to apply. What are the categories?
  • Young Achievers Award for Leadership and Social Enterprise;This category recognizes individuals, organizations or group of young people with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social challenges.  It includes consideration for profit and not for profit social enterprise ventures, youth leaders/Activists in the social and political realm
  • Young Achievers Award for Farming and Agro-Processing; Agriculture being the backbone of Uganda’s economy, this category recognizes and rewards outstanding individuals who are engaged in agricultural production and processing (Agro industry) creating as a livelihood for themselves and others and eventually feeding the nation.
  • Young Achievers Award for Scientific Innovation ;This category recognizes outstanding achievement in areas of information communication, technology and other scientific and engineering innovative activities facilitating positive change in society. These may include technology software solutions and others ranging from private PC sales, right through to development of corporate, mechanics, robotic inventions and creations, education software solutions, and communications networks.
  • Young Achievers Award for Business Entrepreneurship;This category recognizes outstanding individuals who are leading entrepreneurs of their generation. He or she may be involved in general business of merchandise and retail business, Export and Distribution networks, service sector, Media  & Advertising, Event management, and others but been able to succeed against all odds and proven to be exceptional among the rest.
  • Young   Achievers Awards Outstanding Performing Arts;This category recognizes outstanding talent of young people with exceptional achievement in areas of acting, music, and stand-up comedy, dancing, and any other performing arts.
  • Young Achievers Awards Outstanding Sports Personality; This category recognizes outstanding sports talented of young people with exceptional achievement in sports and been able to represent the country internationally with pride and brought glory to the nation. May be a team or individual.
  • Young Achiever –Media and Journalism:This category includes young journalists in print and electronic media who cover the news stories and shape the outlook to society through media. It is aimed at encouraging, promoting and recognizing excellence in African journalism as well as reinforcing the importance of the journalists’ role in Uganda’s development. E.g. Print, radio, TV, bloggers, reporters and media entrepreneurs.

Who becomes Young Achiever? 
We are looking for 7 outstanding youth below the age of 35 years from Uganda with incredibly inspiring stories, who are committed to developing innovative and creative solutions to ending poverty and who have been running a social impact project for more than one year on a full-time/part-time basis. Nominees can be working in any sector (non-profit, for-profit, government), on any issue, and can be either entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs.
